In 1998 the company established DMG Events to manage and develop a portfolio of events businesses. In 1990 DMGT bought Hobsons, a UK publishing business specialising in the education sector.
In 1998 Johnathan Harmsworth (4th Viscount Rothermere) was appointed DMGT Chairman following the death of his father Vere. This year DMGT also launched the freesheet commuter newspaper Metro across a number of urban markets in the UK. The company also bought Landmark, an information services company specialising in the commercial and residential property sectors in 1998.
In 2004 there was another property acquisition for DMGT, Trepp, a US-based company that provided valuation and data solutions for the commercial mortgage-backed securities market.
