Michael T. Fries

Michael Fries was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Prior to joining Liberty Global, Fries worked in the offices of his father, Chuck Fries, a Hollywood producer. After graduating college, Fries worked a handful of jobs in investment banking. A number of his clients at the time were Telecommunications companies, an industry into which Fries eventually transitioned, initially working for United International Holdings, where he would eventually become president after the company was renamed United Globalcom in 1999. United Globalcom became a part of Liberty Global in 2005, when the company was purchased by John C Malone. Fries was immediately appointed Chief Executive Officer.

Today he is also Executive Chairman of Liberty Latin America (LLA), a broadband and mobile operator in Chile, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and other parts of Latin America, and serves on the corporate boards of Grupo Televisa and Lionsgate Entertainment. In the past Mr. Fries was the chairman of the supervisory board for Priority Telecom BV, the chairman at Austar United Communications Pty Ltd., the chairman of Virgin Media Ltd., and chairman for Sunrise Communications Group AG.

He is also Chairman of Denver Biennial of the Americas Corp., a member of Young Presidents' Organization, Inc., a member of the World Presidents' Organization and a member of the overseers board at Columbia Business School. Fries also serves as Digital Communications Governor and Steering Committee Member of the World Economic Forum and recognition.

He is a trustee of The Paley Centre for Media, The Cable Centre, Cable Television Laboratories, and a trustee-emeritus of The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. Fries is a Director of the Alliance for Choice in Education and has donated to DSST Public Schools, a non-profit who manage 12 schools specialising in teaching STEM subjects. He is also the lead singer of The Moderators, a classic rock cover band whose membership exclusively comprises business executives in the Colorado area.

Charles Fries

Michael’s father, was a film and TV producer, who established Chuck Fries Productions, and was involved in the production of The Amazing Spiderman television series, and the 1982 film Cat People. He has had a star on the Hollywood walk of fame since 1978.
