Niamh Uí Bhríain
Niamh Ui Bhrian was born in 1971 into a conservative Catholic household. (Her mother was a prominent campaigner against the introduction of contraception, abortion and divorce to Ireland from the 1970s through to the 2000s). In 1986, she was one of the co-founders of Youth Defence, an anti-abortion organisation focused on younger people. She subsequently co-founded the Life Institute in 2008, an anti-abortion campaign organisation. She is an active contributor to Gript.ie as an author.
Uí Bhriain ran as an independent anti-abortion candidate for Dublin Central in the 1992 general election. She gained 514 first preferences, amounting to 1.4% of the vote.
