Enda O’Coineen is an international entrepreneur, author, sailor and owner of the Business Post in Ireland. He was born in Galway in 1955 and studied Business at University College Galway. He also has experience in media and broadcasting having worked as a journalist for the Irish Times and as the publisher of the Afloat sailing magazine.  He has been involved in a number of investments in technology, energy and finance, often via Kilcullen Kapital Partners.

Kilkullen, a “boutique Private Equity platform” was initially established by O’Coineen in the Czech Republic in 1990 to work in the emerging post-Soviet financial services space. In 2017, his net worth was reported as €49 million, O’Coineen having largely made his fortune in his 20s, by bringing credit facilities and cheap communications to Central/Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. O’Coineen/Kilcullen appear to have subsequently largely exited the Czech market although they retain an interest in the Czech clean energy and retail and hospitality sectors.

As Chairman of Kilcullen Kapital investment platform, O’Coineen acquired what was then The Sunday Business Post in 2018 and has overseen the Business Post Group’s subsequent expansion into research, data, events and education. It was reported in 2020 that he owns just under 90% of the investment vehicle Dun Aengus Invest Unlimited Company.

In 2016 he unsuccessfully ran as an independent candidate for a seat in the Seanad on the NUI panel. He has been engaged in sea-faring adventures since graduating from university, taking place in the Fastnet Race in 1979, multiple editions of the Round Ireland Race and was a pivotal figure in the participation of the yacht “NCB Ireland” (named for its main corporate sponsor, the NCB stockbroking group) in the Volvo Ocean Race in 1989. In 2018 he completed a solo circumnavigation of the world in the Vendée Globe sailing race on his yacht, Kilcullen Voyager. He has written three books on sailing and business, The Unsinkable Kilcullen (1987), The Unsinkable Entrepreneur (2005) and the memoir Close To The Edge (2019).
